A GLOBAL CONTENT INDUSTRY PROJECT TO

"improve the management and communication of online copyright"

The LCC has a remit to work over the next 12 months on a cross-media project that will create the framework for a fully interoperable and fully connected standards-based communications infrastructure so that businesses and individuals can manage and communicate their rights more effectively online. Stakeholders from across the media sectors are now committed to start work although anyone with an interest is welcome to engage with the project at some level.

This project was initiated as one of the “Big Ideas for the Digital Agenda” approved by the European Commission in  2010

In order to grow the digital economy for the benefit of businesses and consumers alike, a more effective and universal deployment of technology is required to make copyright work on the web.  The LCC’s role will largely be to encourage existing standards organisations to work together to develop a common communication for cross-media rights management. Participants in the project will be tasked with identifying what works, what doesn’t work, what exists already and what is yet required. Recommendations will be made and technical work will be undertaken to lay the foundation for a fully connected standards-based communications infrastructure to facilitate the management of online copyright.
